Tang Tze Lye works with the abstraction produced between the mediums of paintings and digital image. Closely evoking sexual encounters that mimic the styles of intimacies that can be found in the western queer pornography and film. His piece simultaneously engages the locality of Asia and its realms of digital queerness. Celebrating the cultural nuance in the revolutionary participation of the queer community in hook up culture. In the ritual of two people finding each other on platform such as Grindr and Blued, the cultural sensations behind the details of the app, the catergorization of physical preferences and its correlation with romance and eroticism - its all the politics of human intimacy. Queer narratives unfurl through the fragile journey of the artist creating these portrait and through that, the fascinating possibility warping the notion of the male gaze onto itself, arrives.
